WE LIVE HERE is our annual summer academy dedicated to creating time and space for experimentation, research, and reflection. As the summer draws to a close, we gather to work and think together. This initiative is co-produced with BAU, a space for independent performing arts residencies and public events.

Our goal is to foster community, establish new rituals, and uncover untold stories that shed light on our relationship with the ecosystem we inhabit. We seek to deepen our understanding of the unseen networks that sustain this delicate balance.

Each year, we offer a rich program featuring diverse lectures, workshops, activities, and more for our participants.

Within this program, we host public events open to all who wish to glimpse our summer academy.

This year, our public events include:

HOW DO YOU WORK -Jan Martens

Tuesday, July 9, 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Jan Martens (born in 1984, Belgium) studied at Fontys Dance Academy in Tilburg and graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp in 2006. Since 2010, he has been creating his own choreographic work, gaining acclaim both nationally and internationally.

Martens believes in the communicative potential of every body. His choreography focuses on clear, direct forms that create space for time, observation, emotion, and reflection. Rather than inventing a new movement language, he transforms and contextualizes existing idioms to spark fresh perspectives. Each of his works aims to redefine the dynamic between audience and performer.

I KNOW IT MIGHT SOUND CRAZY- Gary Shepherd

Wednesday, July 10, 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM

Gary Shepherd, known for composing 99% of the music for Nicole Beutler’s productions over nearly 25 years, will discuss his research for the upcoming NB piece "Now We Are Earth," premiering in 2024.

As an avid audiophile, Gary will explore his belief in sound's fundamental role in the universe. Through audio and visual examples, he will delve into topics such as cymatics, isochronic tones, natural tuning, animal biophony, and the Earth's resonant frequency. Together, we'll investigate the mathematical and physical laws governing sound and vibration, alongside Gary's insights into music perception and composition.

Join us for a dynamic 2-hour session featuring engaging discussions, music, videos, and a behind-the-scenes look at Gary Shepherd's unique approach as a sound designer, composer, and producer.

HUMAN - NATURE RELATIONS prof. Jan Bransen

Friday, July 12, 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Jan Bransen, a Professor of Philosophy of Behavioral Science at Radboud University, argues that amidst mounting crises threatening humanity, a crucial response is needed. In his book "En nu?", he advocates for philosophical engagement as a catalyst for change. Bransen urges us to rethink our perspectives and pose better questions to tackle these challenges collectively. Emphasizing the power of words as actions, he invites readers to engage actively in philosophical discourse—listening, speaking, and evolving together.

Bransen's work extends beyond academia; he has written extensively on autonomy, personal identity, love, and practical rationality, aiming to reach a broader audience with his insights. His approach blends teaching, philosophy, and humor, encouraging a critical examination of everyday assumptions hidden in language.
