NB-produces: vanishing acts- Felix Schellekens

A physical and musical ode to disappearing into nothingness

Maybe you'll see me suddenly appear, so quickly that I become invisible. Perhaps you'll see me dancing among my invisible friends, and a song I sing will linger in your mind long after. Or I might play hide-and-seek with you, disappearing each time you find me. But was I ever really there? Or did I only exist briefly in your imagination? Have you already forgotten me?

In Vanishing Acts, dancer/actor Felix Schellekens suggests that we should practice disappearing more. Why are we obsessed with manifesting ourselves and affirming our life journeys? Why do we view transience as something negative? What do we leave behind if we don’t have children, if our bloodline ends? We grow up with the idea that we must leave something behind, an impressive legacy. But what if, instead, we learn to disappear?

Life inevitably comes with loss and decay. Everything on this earth will eventually perform its own disappearing act. In a playful and raw universe, Felix brings transience to light. From transparent tricks and bizarre shadow play to festering life questions, in Vanishing Acts, we see Felix battle and sing about the invisible, in a desperate attempt to embrace transience.

Felix Schellekens

Felix Schellekens has been an essential part of our organization for nearly 10 years! As a dancer, performer, and singer, we have shared a journey filled with growth, adventure, and creative exploration together.

He performed in 8: METAMORPHOSIS, a production that received the VSCD Mime Prize, was nominated for the VSCD Swan, and won the international Music Theatre Now competition. Additionally, he has worked with various renowned companies and was nominated for a Louis d’Or for his role in Weg met Eddy Bellegueule by Eline Arbo under Toneelschuur Producties. Now, under the guidance of Nicole Beutler Projects, he is creating Vanishing Acts.

Felix Schellekens cannot easily be confined to one discipline. After studying at the Mime School in Amsterdam, he further developed as an actor, singer, dancer, performance artist, and theater maker. His great sensitivity and playfulness, intertwined with stark imagery, encourage the audience to feel rather than think.
